Get involved with Scottish Apprenticeship Week – #ScotAppWeek18, 5-9 March 2018
Scottish Apprenticeship Week is the annual campaign to show that apprenticeships work for businesses, individuals and the economy. Skills Development Scotland aims to make #ScotAppWeek18 the biggest and best yet, with the help of employers, apprentices, learning providers, colleges, universities and campaign supporters.
They want everyone with a shared interest in the success of apprenticeships to get involved and show how they support work-based learning. Developing the Young Workforce West Highland are supporting Skills Development Scotland and West Highland College UHI, to visit each of our nine schools in the West Highland area: Portree, Plockton, Gairloch, Ullapool, Kilchuimen, Mallaig, Ardnamurchan, Lochaber and Kinlochleven, during Scottish Apprentice Week, to help spread the word about the benefits of apprenticeships to school pupils, teachers and parents.
We are looking for businesses from the above areas with current apprentices, to come along to a school, so that they can talk about their apprenticeship experience by either an informal chat with pupils or by giving a short presentation, during school hours. DYW West Highland can provide informal presentation skills to apprentices, prior to visiting schools, if required.
Why should you get involved?
If you’re going to be recruiting, it helps for local schools to know your company and what you offer so that they can signpost pupils to you. Letting young people know more about what you have to offer means they’ll think of you when it’s time to start applying for jobs. It also lets you build stronger relationships with your local schools and promotes the fantastic work that so many companies are currently doing to develop the young workforce in our local area.
All businesses within the above areas are encouraged to get in touch with DYW West Highland, to learn how they can be part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, and other planned opportunities such as: work experience and mentoring for young people. Contact us on: 01397 705765 or email@example.com
