Plockton High School Pupils Learn about Hospitality jobs at Plockton Hotel!

In September, four pupils who were a mixture of S4 and 5 students visited Plockton Hotel to learn about the local opportunities available in catering, events and hospitality. Apprenticeships offered at local hotels can help students to gain qualifications in the above fields as students earn while they learn, gaining experience and money at the same time. Some of the qualifications gained can allow students to live and work anywhere in the world if they chose to go down this route.

A Tour of the Hotel

Pupils received a warm welcome at reception from Plockton Hotel staff before going on a tour of the hotel where students were shown all the main function rooms for weddings and business meetings. In the kitchen, pupils were informed about the importance of food hygiene, effective time management and the continuous team work needed to keep customers happy with the service provided at the hotel. Some historical knowledge regarding the hotel’s past and previous owners was also imparted to the pupils to boost their knowledge of the past workings of the hotel.

Hospitality Job Opportunities

In order to promote all of the exciting opportunities that come with working in the hospitality sector, staff told pupils in detail about available jobs and apprenticeship schemes, using their own experiences and stories of their hospitality careers to highlight the benefits of applying to one. Mentioned job opportunities included housekeeping, waitressing, hotel management, reception, chef and bar work.

The informative tour was concluded by teachers and students receiving some refreshment and a taste of the hotel’s best shortbread, followed by an offer of work experience and future tours should the students want this.

Therefore a big shout out and thanks goes to the Plockton Hotel staff for their time, consideration and warm welcome to the students!
