Kinlochleven 3-18 School Speed Networking Careers Fair

Last month, DYW West Highland organised the first careers fair of this kind for Kinlochleven 3-18 School, so that P6 – S3  could reap the benefits of interacting with a variety of employers through asking questions, whilst participating in fun, interactive activities.

A Productive Day

Kindly hosted by the beautiful Ballachulish Hotel, employers included:

The businesses interacted with S1 to S3 pupils for the first part of the day, followed by P6/7. Through a speed networking format, groups of students spoke to each exhibiting employer whilst participating in activities that demonstrated their work, such as using spaghetti and marshmallows to make a building structure, riding a segway, making a non alcoholic liquid with mini distillery equipment, trying on PPE equipment and company visors and much more! Pixel Spirit Distillery owner, Craig Innes commented:

‘It was amazing to attend the DYW West Highland Careers Fair this year! When I was at school I left really not knowing what I wanted to do. It is our privilege to be able to help the future of Scotland see the variety of options that are available to them on their doorstep which can be overlooked in a small rural community.’

‘The event was well organised and the teachers leading, helped guide students to see different opportunities available which was fantastic!’

An Annual Event

After a highly successful day, we are hoping that pupils will use the information gained from local employers to shape their future job or work experience aspirations. Kinlochleven High School Headteacher, Rebecca Machin commented:

‘The P6 – S3 Speed Networking Careers Fair at Ballachulish Hotel was a roaring success. Feedback from all pupils was very positive and the P6 and P7 pupils especially, really appreciated being included and finding out about the wide range of careers that are available to them. I would like to thank all of the employers who volunteered to take part and DYW West Highland for organising this event and I am already very much looking forward to next year.’

Many thanks to all employers who came along to make the day a huge success and highly enjoyable for our school pupils! We look forward to welcoming you back to the next fair in 2020 with feedback from employers to incorporate senior pupils also.
