Why should you get involved?
A number of employers in the West Highlands currently offer work-based learning opportunities, but we need more employers in all types of industries to offer high quality work-based learning opportunities. Offering meaningful employer-led experiences to young people comes in various forms and there are so many ways that employers can help schools and colleges, in our local area. Whether it is to increase self-esteem and social confidence or help provide that light bulb moment that encourages a young person into seeking a positive destination after they leave education. Your help ensures that our future employees have the right work experience for your industry.
Here is what is available to your business
If you are ever looking to recruit employees, it helps for local schools and colleges to know your company and what you offer, so that they can signpost pupils to you for: training, employment, apprenticeship and graduate opportunities. So, it helps to sow the seed early; even if you are a small business and don’t need to recruit, you can still enjoy the social and corporate benefits from helping young people. Being involved with DYW could range from: employer-led mock interviews, employer visits, work experience, mentoring, building awareness of your industry sector, to delivering a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths), hospitality, beauty or business project – the list is endless. Letting young people know more about what you offer means they’ll think of you when it’s time to start applying for jobs. It also lets you build stronger relationships with your local schools and promotes the fantastic work that so many companies like you are currently doing to develop the young workforce in our local area.
All employers within Lochaber, Skye and Wester Ross areas are encouraged to get in touch with us, to learn how you can be part of DYW West Highland, and reap the benefits on offer to your business.
