Celebrating Success at the 28th September Business Awards 2018!
We had a fantastic time at the Business Awards ceremony on the 28th September as the hard work and efforts of many businesses that help to develop the talents and opportunities of our Highland young people was recognised. Hosted by the beautiful Drumossie Hotel in Inverness, the finalists for each Highland region were presented with a certificate before the overall DYW Regional winner was announced.
The Winner Takes It All
After a delicious lunch, we were delighted for Inverness based company MacGregor Industrial Supplies who were announced as the overall DYW Regional Winner, 2018. All the nominated companies at the awards all work extremely hard to work closely with the DYW groups to train and develop the Highland young workforce and we are especially proud of our West Highland business nominations that included Ullapool Harbour Trust (DYW WH winner) and runner ups, Lochaber Hope and Ferguson Transport & Shipping.
Ullapool Harbour Trust offers work experience for many young people who are looking for marine related careers as Harbour Master, Kevin Peach helped one girl to secure a place at Glasgow University to study marine biology when he offered her work experience on one of their boats. The harbour plays a key role in the community visiting local schools and working closely with the young people of Ullapool.
Lochaber Hope is a highly regarded charity that works to help a range of young adults deal with personal and sensitive issues, specialising in mentoring, counselling, training and employability services. Through these provisions, young people can increase their confidence and circumstances to reach their potential.
Ferguson Transport & Shipping is a multi-award-winning logistics company that offer fantastic apprenticeship and training opportunities throughout the West Highlands and beyond for young people in numerous areas of the business. Young people can train to be everything from an office administrator to an engineer or HGV mechanic. Staff at Ferguson Transport & Shipping have been exceedingly proactive when working with DYW to develop the future workforce.
Generally, we work with many businesses who all go the extra mile to develop the skills and talents of young people, making judging an especially hard task!
Thank you and Well Done!
DYW West Highland Manager, Colleen MacLean had the pleasure and honour of presenting our nominated West Highland businesses with their well-deserved achievement certificates. The certificates are good PR for the businesses and helps them to gain recognition for all their hard work but are also a thank you from us for helping to meet the DYW aims and objectives.
Keep up the good work everyone!
