Build Your Highland Career
Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) West Highland is pleased to announce that there will be another online webinar, focusing on construction careers within the Highland region. We are linking with DYW Inverness & Central Highland and DYW North Highland, West Highland College UHI and CITB Construction to provide an opportunity for young people across our regions to find out more about the growing opportunities in the sector.
Join us on the 30th September at 2.30 -3.30pm, via Zoom to hear from a range of speakers from the industry, who will be sharing their career stories, advice and expertise, helping you to make informed choices about your future.
Aimed at school leavers but also to all young people of up to 25 years of age, the LIVE one hour session will be informative and interactive, including a question and answer session at the end as well as the chance to sign up for a mock interview with CITB to further your knowledge, confidence and preparation for working in the industry. Teachers, parents and carers are also invited to join to learn about the many job, apprenticeship and further education opportunities available within the construction industry.
Hear from and interact with the following speakers:
- Rheanna Urqhuart, a Site Manager from Global Infrastructure

In a growing industry where 13,950 new recruits will be needed over the next five years to maintain Scotland’s construction employment level at over 228,000 workers (Credit: CITB Industry Insights,2020), this is a fantastic opportunity to learn from industry professionals if you are a current school pupil considering your career options or are looking for a career change or opportunity after redundancy, university or college.
Frazer Coupland, DYW West Highland Lead and CEO of Lochaber Chamber of Commerce said:
“A growing industry such as construction offers many varied and interesting roles and apprenticeships within the Highland region for our young people. We are excited to work with a variety of construction companies and West Highland College UHI to create an informative and interactive online session for those interested in the industry.”
The series of virtual career events is part of our immediate solution following the impact of COVID-19 to deliver employer-led online events, providing positivity to young people throughout 2020 showcasing the Highlands as the best place to study, live and work.
